Design’d Grapes – 5/6/11

Buenos Días, everyone! Resident Male here once again, hoping your annual Seis de Mayo hangover isn’t too too bad. Would you believe I had to be reminded that yesterday was Cinco de Mayo? My inner fraternity president is currently shaking his head in disbelief and shame, but here’s hoping all of you had a great time whatever you did last night. And if not? It’s not too late; it’s the freakin’ weekend, baby! Let’s have some fun!

To that end, we’re gonna start a new tradition today. Every week, it seems like we think of stuff that we want to share – funny links, cool songs, quick tips and tricks, etc. – that don’t really warrant a whole post. So every Friday, we’re going to devote some time to all of these, as Tracy Jordan would call them, Mind Grapes that accumulate in our little ADHD brains over the course any given week.

So… Ladies and gentlemen, here are E&B’s Design’d Grapes for the first week of May 2011!

  • There’s a funny new craft/design blog on the market! Now, usually, we wouldn’t be about giving aid and comfort to the competition, but the ladies of The Craft, happen to be some of our bestest friends and some of the smartest, funniest people on the planet. They’ve only just begun, so there’s only two posts up, but keep them on your radar. I don’t know. Put it in your Google Reader or something! (Do people even still use that? It’s like 2007’s answer to the rotary phone.)
  • Fun fact: Many moons ago, your humble Resident Male was both the managing and music editor over at a local blog for hipster homos called The New Gay, and every week we’d have a little feature about what music everyone on the editorial staff was listening to and why. I must say I do miss regularly foisting my brilliant, mildly pretentious musical opinions upon an unsuspecting public, so I thought it might be nice to end each DG, with a little music. This week: everyone’s favorite mountain-men-indie-rockers, Fleet Foxes! This past Tuesday, FF released their second full-length album, Helplessness Blues, and it’s pretty great. I particularly like this track, “Grown Ocean.” It just gets your heart racing, and makes you want to jump in a car, put the top down, and hit the road. Perfect for spring! Check it out if you feel so inclined, and then head on over to iTunes and grab a copy. It’s definitely worth your while!

And that’s that! Be sure to check us out next week. We’re ordering our client’s new kitchen on Monday, so we’ll have tons and tons of kitchen ish to share in very short order. Have a fabulous weekend, and to all the moms out there: thank you, we love you, and have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Until next time!
