Media Matters!

Look at the cuteness! How could you not root for The Pack?!

Bom dia, everyone! Resident male here once again, hoping this Tuesday afternoon finds you well and toasty! It’s a chilly one out there, folks! Yesterday, the temperature here in DC dropped into the teens; tomorrow, they’re calling for snow! It’s winter madness! But I’m not letting it get me down, because we’re less than two weeks away from one of our favorite days of the year here at E&B! That’s right! I’m talking about Super Bowl Sunday!

Does that shock you? Well, it shouldn’t, because all of us here are avid sports fans, especially when football season comes around. And being DC residents (or at least DC-adjacent), we all get pretty amped over our beloved Washington Redskins… which… this year… I can’t even… sigh…

But moving on! (Shanahan! Snyder! McNabb! ARGH!!!!!)

Now, Lindsay over there, she’s the actual sports fan. She can give you all the player stats and tell you how to pick a winning fantasy team and probably teach a master class on the merits of the hurry-up three-man two-minute offensive touchback blitz or whatever it is. But me? I just like the stories and the drama of it all. (And a whole bunch of reasonably attractive men in tight pants tackling each other doesn’t hurt either. It’s like a really weird version of Saturday night on Sunday afternoon!) So, like many of you, we’re all pretty pumped to get together with all our loved ones for the biggest, most exciting game of all, Super Bowl XLV. Or as I’m calling it: The Night When “America’s Stalwart, Not Un-cute New Boyfriend” Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers Eat “America’s Drunken Frat Party Mistake” Ben Roethlisberger and the odious Pittsburgh Steelers For Dinner. I can’t wait! Food, friends, fun and drama? What’s not to love?

But I do have a point. I promise.

Did you know that more new televisions are sold in the run-up to the Super Bowl than at any other time of the year? Makes sense, right? Well, that got us thinking. If you’re gonna go down to Best Buy or wherever and drop a ton of cash on a beautiful new TV, why in the world would you put it on the cheap, janky stand they’re gonna try and sell you at the store? Now that it seems that the ugly, space-hogging, boxy, black TVs are quickly going the way of the dodo, it’s totally ok to leave your TV out and even make it a focal point of the room. It’s still important, however, to have a way to store and organize all your gizmo and gadgets and boxes and remotes. But I’m just saying, if you’re just gonna put everything on the cheapest, most boring thing you can find, well, it kind of cheapens all your pretty new gadgets and your pretty new TV, right?

Understandably, most people think a fashionable media storage piece will cost them as much as the house, but it’s possible to have good-looking and functional media storage with paying an arm and a leg. We promise! So if you’re in the market for a new television, or you just feel like sprucing up your living room before all your stupid friends come over and trash it in a couple of weeks, here are some of, in our humble opinion, the latest and greatest in media centers. Check it out!

First up, we’ve got the Reston Corner Media Cabinet by Ballard Designs:

We love this cabinet, not only because it looks fab and easily holds and hides all of your components, it’s also an ingenious way to save space in a small room. But the best part? You won’t still be paying it off come next year’s Super Bowl!

Next is the Douglas Console by Patagonia Trading Co.:

The one is a little bit pricier than the last one, but those sleek, modern, sophisticated lines make it a showstopper. Yes, the console in the above picture is made from zebra wood. But don’t worry, there are definitely more eco-friendly options, if that’s your thing. (Which it should be!)

Third is the sturdy and rugged Component Cabinet by Bausman & Co.:

If you’re into a more traditional look, this is the cabinet for you. Plus, it’s customizable. It comes in a variety of different woods and finishes to accentuate any and all rooms. And you can even adjust the size! Watch out though. All that customizing does come at a price, but if you’re willing to pay a bit more, you’ll get a wonderful, durable piece that will last a lifetime.

Finally, we’ve got the TV Easel by Restoration Hardware:

Obviously, this is one for those of you with a more whimsical sense of humor. I mean it’s not the most practical piece in world, but look at it! How cool is that, right?!

As I’m sure you can imagine, these four media centers are just the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands of styles and finishes to choose from; it’s all about finding the right one for you. Just keep this in the back your mind when you’re driving that gorgeous new flatscreen home: there’s no reason in the world it shouldn’t be sitting on something gorgeous too! For help finding the perfect media storage option for you, feel free to drop us a line anytime!

Until next time! Enjoy the game! And GO PACKERS!!!
